Yes, Tirmira runs on Mistral's EU API, and we're glad to say so — Mistral is a French company with EU servers, which is exactly why we chose it. So why pay us instead of going to Mistral yourself? Honestly, it depends which "Mistral" you mean.
Vibe is excellent for everyday chat — but it's the wrong tool to put a client's confidential document into, for three concrete reasons:
On Vibe's Free and Pro plans, your prompts and uploaded documents are used to train Mistral's models unless you find and keep an opt-out switched off — Mistral's own help pages say so and advise opting out to protect uploads [1]. Every person at your firm has to find that toggle and never forget it.
Mistral's ZDR — the guarantee that nothing is stored or logged after producing a result — is not offered on Vibe, because a chat app has to keep your history to work [2]. It's only available on the paid API, which is what Tirmira runs on.
Under a personal chat account you have no Article 28 data processing agreement — the contract GDPR requires whenever someone processes personal data on your behalf. So when a client or auditor asks who processed this, under what agreement, where?, you've nothing to show: consumer terms, no processor relationship, a compliance gap you can't paper over after the fact. (Mistral does provide a DPA for business/API use — that's the relationship Tirmira holds on your behalf; a personal account just isn't under it.) And a chat box isn't a document pipeline: no fixed template, no guaranteed deletion, results buried in a scroll.
This is the fair version of the question — and the honest answer is: the model is the easy part. Mistral's API gives you a raw model. To turn that into what Tirmira does, you'd have to build, and then maintain forever:
And then the part most people forget — the compliance layer, which is the actual hard work:
The model is maybe 5% of the product. The other 95% — the pipeline, the guarantees, and the paperwork — is what you're paying for, and it's already done, tested, and maintained.
And if you genuinely want programmatic access, you don't have to drop down to raw Mistral and re-do the compliance work: Pro plans include a Tirmira API — the same pipeline, with Zero Data Retention, deletion, and the DPA already in place. You integrate without rebuilding any of it. See the API docs.
ZDR active, a DPA in place, processors named in the privacy policy, EU-only processing — the paperwork an auditor asks for, done. Not something you assemble after the fact.
Raw Mistral gives a different answer every time you rephrase — and a non-expert can't reliably prompt a 100-page contract to surface what matters. Each document type runs through a purpose-built template, so the same rigorous structure comes back every time, no prompt skill required.
Contract/NDA, RFP, lease, financial report, meeting notes each get a purpose-built structure — key clauses, red flags, obligations, action items — not a generic "summarise this." Raw Mistral doesn't know what a lease analysis should contain unless you tell it, every time.
A chat window loses the thread on a 100-page lease. Tirmira is tuned for documents up to ~200 pages and warns you when one runs over. On the raw API, context limits, chunking, and truncation are yours to handle. Originals are extracted in memory and never stored.
High-risk uses the AI Act restricts — screening people or CVs, credit scoring — are prohibited in our Terms, and the app actively blocks the obvious attempts to steer it there. Raw Mistral has no domain limits and no such contract: it does whatever you ask, and the exposure is yours.
On the paid API under Zero Data Retention, Mistral never stores or logs your document or its analysis — used only to produce your result, then gone. Your copy is deleted within 24 hours; analyses you control and delete on demand.
No API keys, no prompt engineering, no GDPR project, no upkeep when something changes upstream. You get the outcome; we keep the machine running.
If you're a developer who wants to build this on Mistral's API — genuinely, go for it. Mistral's API is excellent, and we'd rather you use a European, EU-hosted model than a US one either way. Tirmira isn't for the person who wants to run an AI pipeline. It's for the bookkeeper, the consultant, the lawyer, the agency who wants the outcome — a reliable, private, audit-ready document analysis — without becoming an AI-pipeline operator to get it.
We're a Mistral customer who did the hard part for you. That's the whole product.
